DAYS 1 - 2, Kruger National Park
Our tour begins in Johannesburg, the 'City of Gold' one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the African continent. Starting early, we leave the city traffic behind and travel through the scenic Mpumalanga province to the Greater Kruger. Kruger is South Africa's best known park and now a part of the much larger Trans Frontiers Peace Parks initiative along with parts of neighboring Zimbabwe and Mozambique; over 24,000 square kilometers dedicated to the protection of Africa's wildlife! The Greater Kruger and Limpopo area contains Africa's 'Big Five' - lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard- as well as giraffe, hippo, various antelope and a huge variety (almost 500 species) of birdlife. We have two nights in the area with a full day spent in the Kruger on games drives and there is an option of a night drive (subject to availability).
DAYS 3 - 5, Chobe National Park, Botswana
Leaving the Kruger area we move quickly north passing through rural 'Waterberg' before crossing the border into Botswana. A vast country with relatively small population, Botswana is wealthy in mineral resources; mainly diamonds. We pass through Francistown and the tiny settlement of Nata on the long drive to Kasane in the extreme north of the country. We make camp near Chobe National Park where we can take the game viewing cruise on the Chobe River. Sit back and relax and catch sight of elephant, buffalo and hippo wallowing in the river shallows. Chobe is also known for its prolific birdlife. Look out for the famous fish eagle as it swoops down on the river to feed.
DAY 6, Victoria Falls, Livingstone
On the last day of the tour cross into Zambia on the Kazangula Ferry and drive the short distance to Livingstone and our camp on the banks of the Zambezi River. Just downstream is the Victoria Falls; one of the most enduring sights in Africa and the perfect place to end our short African Insight tour.
